Serving the Comox Valley
Heat pumps at Royston and Union Bay
Courtenay Heat Pumps installs and services heat pumps at Royston and Union Bay, right on Baynes Sound. Salt air is hard on an outdoor coil here, so we will tell you at quote stage whether a coated coil is worth the extra on your property — it cannot be added later. The Comox Valley receives about 1,400 mm of rain each year, so we mount outdoor units off the ground and offer yearly maintenance.
We pick equipment on the shoreline the same way we do anywhere else in the valley. What changes is how long your outdoor unit lasts, and the maintenance that decides it. A condenser within sight of the water corrodes faster than the identical unit two kilometres inland.
Coil coating and what it buys
A coated coil costs you more up front and is often the difference between us cleaning your condenser and replacing it. The closer your unit sits to open water, and the more exposed we have to mount it, the more we will push for one. We raise it at quote stage because it cannot be retrofitted later.
Mounting and drainage on a shoreline lot
We mount your unit high enough to stay clear of standing water and salt spray both. Defrost cycles shed water all winter, and a pad that ponds is a slow problem rather than one you notice straight away. Both are cheap for us to get right at installation and awkward to fix afterwards.
Service intervals matter more here
We cover coil condition, refrigerant charge, airflow, condensate drainage, electrical connections and the defrost cycle. On your coastal installation the coil is what moves fastest, and the capacity you lose to corrosion goes so gradually that you will not notice until a cold snap.
We have to settle the coil coating at quote stage, so book a free heat pump quote before the shoulder season rather than after it.
