Serving the Comox Valley

Heat pumps in Comox

Courtenay Heat Pumps installs ductless and ducted systems in Comox, Courtenay, and across the Comox Valley. We measure your existing ductwork first to see if you can reuse it for a new system. We also run an electrical load calculation under CEC Rule 8-200 on that same visit. You find out what your panel can carry before committing to equipment.

Homes in Comox generally need either a central ducted heat pump or a ductless system. If you are in a 1970s split-level or later, you probably already have forced-air ductwork, which points us at a central system. If you are in a smaller post-war house with no ducts at all, we will almost certainly recommend ductless.

What the housing era means for sizing

If your home has forced air, you already have ductwork in place. We still measure your ducts first because heat pumps need more airflow than older furnaces. A house that has never had ducts is a ductless job, and we ask you how many zones it needs, not how much total capacity it needs.

Your household income determines your CleanBC rebate amount

If you are taking out oil, gas or propane, the Energy Savings Program is income-qualified and you get nothing if you are over the threshold — we check that before you spend anything. The program's $13,000 ceiling applies to electric heat replacements at Levels 1 and 2, while fossil-fuel conversions land in Level 3. If you are coming off electric baseboards you can use the Home Renovation Rebate instead, worth up to $4,000 with no income test at all.

Rental property does not qualify

Make sure to verify primary residence rules before planning your heat pump project. The Energy Savings Program applies to primary residences in ground-oriented homes across the Comox Valley. The program requires you to live in the home as your primary residence to qualify. Replacing a heat pump you already have, or adding a head to it, will not qualify either.

We answer the sizing question and the panel question on the same visit, so your free heat pump quote comes back with the rebate already confirmed.
