Ductless is what we recommend if your house has never had forced air. We do not open anything up: the outdoor unit sits on a pad or a bracket, and we run a small line set through an exterior wall to each indoor head. The two things worth your time are how many heads you need and whether your electrical service can carry them.
Where ductless is the obvious choice
If you are on electric baseboard you have no ducts to reuse, so going ducted would mean us building a duct network from nothing. Same goes for additions, suites and finished basements put in long after the original build. In those cases the only real question is how many zones you need.
How many heads the house needs
One head will serve an open area well and the rooms off it poorly. Your doors decide it: a hallway with four closed bedrooms off it will not heat from a single head in the living room, whatever capacity we put in. Multi-head ductless systems give you more zones, and we check how your current heating source fits into the Energy Savings Program.
What the electrical panel has to carry
We run a load calculation under CEC Rule 8-200 to find out what your panel can actually carry — not how old it is or how many breaker slots are open. Plenty of older services here turn out to have room. If your panel needs an upgrade for a ductless setup, the Energy Savings Program offers an add-on grant to help.

The installation process
- 1. Walk-through and zone count — we go through which rooms you need heat in, which doors stay closed, and where we can put an outdoor unit within a sensible line-set run.
- 2. Heat-loss calculation — we run a CSA F280-12 calculation to set the capacity, and a load calculation to settle your panel question.
- 3. Install and commission — we set the pad or bracket, run the lines and electrical, balance the system, and help you with your rebate paperwork.

Do ductless heads need to run in every room?
No — we place heads by zone, not by room. Your open living, dining and kitchen area is normally one zone; bedrooms behind closed doors each need their own head or something else to top them up.
Can a mini-split heat a whole house on its own?

Is ductless noisy indoors?
The compressor sits outside your house. The indoor heads run a fan you will hear at high speed and barely notice at low. Where we put them matters more than anything on the specification sheet.
